What's the difference between covalent and covalence?

I got this on an online test earlier this week and I put down "covalence" while the "right" answer was "covalent." I'm checking on dictionary.com now and it says "covalence." This question is worth 3% on the test and can bump me up a letter so I want a triple check: what's the difference?
